Question 1: Why do people regress into their past lives?

Most clients who come for Past Life Regression do so out of pure curiosity. It is increasing in popularity to discover who we have been in earlier lives, and to find out how our previous experiences have shaped us into the people we are now. Others, however, have a more specific reason for pursuing this type of therapy. It is an effective tool to help us understand the events we ‘see’ in recurring dreams. These can often be memories of past lives seeping into our subconscious when we are dreaming. Many people are also curious to find out if they have known their loved one before, especially since so many of us have experienced that feeling of familiarity when meeting someone for the first time, or even when visiting places. It can also be useful in shedding light on unusual behaviours, obsessions, unexplained illnesses, fears and phobias.

Question 2: Can everyone be regressed?

Regression and hypnotism are suitable for most people, but there are just a few exceptions:

· Clients who are under the influence of alcohol and certain drugs

· Those who have a clinical mental health problem

· Clients who practice transcendental meditation

Question 3: What does it feel like to be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state of mind. We frequently find ourselves in a light trance as we go about our everyday lives. It is like being in a deep daydream. When you focus your mind intently on the tv or when reading a captivating book, we often ‘switch off’ from the world around us. We also do this when we are driving on a familiar stretch of road. During hypnosis we are aware of everyday traffic noises, phones ringing and aeroplanes flying over, but these familiar sounds are reassuring and not disturbing to the client who is undergoing hypnosis for the first time.

Question 4: What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is focusing of the mind.

Question 5: How does hypnosis work?

During hypnosis we communicate with the subconscious. Firstly the client has to achieve a deep state of relaxation which is done by using techniques which slow the breathing, relax the muscles and allow the changes in the brain pattern to happen so that the client can calmly visualise things which are suggested to them by the therapist. These techniques bypass the conscious, rational, reasoning part of the mind so that the therapist works with the subconscious which is responsible for 88% of all brain activity.

Question 6: Why do clients have to close their eyes during hypnosis?

Closing the eyes helps the client to focus the mind. By shutting out all conscious visual stimulation  the client can better focus the inside of their minds, without the visual distractions.

Question 7: Why is it more difficult to get accurate dates and names during regression than visual images?

This is all to do with how the brain remembers. We must remind ourselves that the subconscious is asked to recall significant events in our past lives. It does not always recognize the significance of time as we do in our present life. Visual memory is more efficient than factual recall, but with practice, a client can get more accurate at remembering facts.

Question 8: I’ve heard of people experiencing emotional outbreaks during regression. Why does this happen?

This is known as an abreaction and it is a perfectly normal occurrence. A client can become overwhelmed by emotion, and quite tearful for a time, if a repression is released through revisiting a past life event which they have not dealt with emotionally. Once the flow of pent up emotion has subsided, the therapist will be able to proceed with further healing techniques. The release of this emotion in itself is a therapeutic experience for the client.
